Bayelsa to Host 6th Douye Diri Int'l Scouting Tournament in December

Bayelsa State is set to host the 6th edition of the Douye Diri International Scouting Tournament, a renowned platform for showcasing Nigeria's emerging football talent.

The event, organized under the auspices of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, also known as the Prosperity Cup, is scheduled to take place from December 4 to 8, 2024, at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

According to the Director General of the tournament, Mr. Ono Akpe, this year’s edition promises to be an exciting opportunity for young players to gain international exposure and potentially secure professional contracts with top European clubs.

“We are committed to harnessing the vast football talents in Bayelsa State and providing a platform for them to shine on the global stage,” Akpe stated.

The invitation-only tournament has gained recognition as a result of the Prosperity Cup's success, which has consistently drawn global attention for its outstanding display of talent.

This year, top European scouts, coaches, and club representatives will attend, searching for Nigeria’s next football sensations.

Prominent attendees include Ertugun Yusuf Emre Adanyspor, Sporting Director of Turkey, Fred French, Vice President of FC Quomi of Malta, and Fatih Ates, Coach of Bulusopor of Turkey.

Others include Naujot Singh Brar of X-One Agency in Norway, Turan Aykut of Adabademin FC in Turkey, Hillary Azado, Sporting Director of OTP Finland, Peter Neketein, a UEFA Coach B, Kelvin Etemike, Chief Scout of OTP Finland and CEO of Tristone Sport Management, and Hakan Uyammis, a top agent in Turkey.

As a testament to the tournament’s impact, five players from last year’s edition have secured trials in Lithuania, Malta, and Turkey.

These players, having passed rigorous medical examinations, are poised to join the January transfer window in Europe.

This year’s scouting and coaching clinic will also run from December 4 to 8, targeting players aged 18 to 21.

Additionally, a pre-season coaching clinic is planned ahead of the Prosperity Cup Season 7, slated for February 2025.

The organisers extended their appreciation to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, and Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr. Daniel Igali, for their steadfast support in advancing sports in the state.
